The nearest airport is the Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport in Porto, located 80 km north of Aveiro.
Getting to Aveiro from Porto Airport
To get to Aveiro from Porto Airport, you can:
- Rent a car (driving time to Aveiro: 1 hour).
- Take a taxi (around €80).
- Use public transportation: subway + train, or bus.
Public Transport – subway+train
On the airport, you can take the Metro to the city center (Line E – Trindade; Z4 Ticket, around €2.60). At "Porto-Trindade," validate the same ticket and switch to any of the following lines to reach the "Porto-Campanhã" train station. Metro Map and Schedules.:
- Lines A and B (direction "Estádio do Dragão");
- Line C (direction “Campanhã”);
- Line F (direction “Fânzeres”).
Exit at Campanhã and head to the train station (about a 2-minute walk).
Alternatively, a taxi from the airport to the train station (Porto-Campanhã) costs approximately €20 and takes about 30 minutes.
At Campanhã train station, there are trains to Aveiro running regularly throughout the day (one every hour). The ticket costs about €3.70, and the journey takes between 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes. Faster trains (Alfa or Intercidades) are also available. Public Transportation – bus
There are direct buses from Porto Airport to Aveiro at various times throughout the day, with fares starting at €4.95. These services are operated by the following companies:
Getting to Aveiro from Lisbon Airport.
The Humberto Delgado Airport (Lisbon Airport) is located about 250 km south of the city of Aveiro. Since it’s a long journey, it’s recommended to take a train from Lisbon to Aveiro using an Intercity or Alfa Pendular.
To get from Lisbon Airport to the main station (Lisbon - Oriente), you can:
- Take the Metro using the red line to Oriente train station. The ticket costs only €1.50.
- Take a taxi, which costs around €10 and takes about 15 minutes.
- Take buses 705 and 744 to Oriente bus station, which costs around €1.80. You can buy the ticket on board the bus.
When you arrive at Lisbon – Oriente train station, you can take the Intercidades or Alfa Pendular high-speed train to Aveiro. The Intercidades and Alfa Pendular trains take approximately 2 hours and 2.5 hours, respectively, to reach Aveiro. The Intercidades costs between €21-31 and the Alfa Pendular between €28-40. The Aveiro train station is located about a 30-minute walk away.
The taxi or Uber ride takes about 5 minutes (between €3 and €6).
The Aveiro Bus Line 11 stops at the Local Stop (University – Rectorate) after stopping at University – Old Rectorate (this stop is not listed on the schedule, but it exists). The trip takes approximately 10 minutes and the ticket costs €2.05 (you can buy the ticket on the bus). Information on schedules.
